Saybrook College is one of the twelve residential colleges that make up Yale College, the undergraduate school of Yale University. Saybrook is located at the heart of the Yale campus in the center of historic downtown New Haven, and it occupies part of Yale’s architecturally distinctive Memorial Quadrangle, first constructed in 1917. Saybrook College takes pride in its history of scholarly excellence, intramural athletic heroics, the beauty of its two courtyards (“Grass” and “Stone,” officially “Killingworth” and “Saybrook”), and its ever-vibrant student spirit. Members of the Saybrook community are known as “Saybrugians,”(with a soft “g”) and every one of them knows the Saybrook cheer: “Say what? SAYBROOK” (repeat at least three times). Its traditions include the famous “Saybrook Strip,” a unique and entertaining phenomenon that occurs in the third quarter of every home football game. Saybrook is also the home of the Saybrook College Orchestra, one of the finest of Yale’s undergraduate musical ensembles.
